This source shows an example of the literacy and voting tests that were put in place to try to force African Americans to not vote. The south purposely did this so that the African Americans were unable to vote. They made the tests for white people super easy and the tests for African Americans super hard. The primary source shows an example of one of the tests and describes how unfair it was towards the African Americans and how it affected the voting in that time period.

Reagan's speech addressing the Soviet Union's militarily strategic power as being absolutist or extremist represented the escalating tensions during the Cold War. Reagan immediately asked for a roll-back from the Cold War, stating that the nuclear arms race was misunderstood and should end at once. Even to declare that the United States had declared fault, he continued to speak to explain new objectives of NATO were to protect Eastern European nuclear missiles, provided they be fired.
Reagan's speech is very significant in both cultural and political terms. Gaining worldwide response from both acclaiming critics and harsh negativity, Reagan's speech received criticism from the Soviet Union as well, with statements of justification stating that the US is world imperialist power as well, and desires world domination. Leaning toward the cultural spectra of effects by this speech, Reagan defined "a cowboy" in his harsh, hubris manner of dealing with the arms race. Many were shocked by the overall brash tone given, and exemplified American presidents in the future to be a "cowboy".
